Local Housing
Incorporated in 1959, the Village of Carol Stream is a community
with a well-balanced mix of residential, commercial and light industrial
development. The non-residential uses help defray property taxes
and contribute to the success of this thriving DuPage County suburb.
Carol Stream's growth has been formidable, with the town going
from a population of 832 in 1960 to an estimated population of over
38,000 today. Good local schools and extensive recreational facilities
make it attractive to young, middle income families. The median
age of the Carol Stream resident is 29.2 years and the average household
income is estimated at $72,723.
Home buyers have their choice of a wide range of housing styles,
from ranches to split-levels to two-story colonials. Single family
detached homes range in price from $110,000 on the low end to as
high as $350,000 for a custom built home. The 1997 average price
for a single family home was $174,763.
Condominiums and townhomes are also available at prices ranging
from $40,000 to $130,000. Rental apartments go for a median gross
rent of $620.
